Ever since EJ posted the ready for action picture postcard depicting a scene of 1940s pilots over a year ago, I keep coming across inspiring aviation images and the runways appear to have taken notice. The fiercely independent and pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart was the muse for each of Acne's collections for this season (men's, women's and precollections) and there is certainly an assured nonchalance showcased in the men's collection which is a nod to her style. Now I've not seen the recent film adaptation of her life directed by Mira Nair but I'd rather not think of Hilary Swank when I'm getting dressed because I just don't like her...but I might just steal her aviator. My irrational dislike for Swank aside, this 1920's tomboy and first female aviator was a woman with an extreme spirit of adventure pushing herself to the very limit in the process and has helped inspire a marvelous collection from Johansson and his team. There is a terrific balance between the masculine and feminine, heavy and light, soft and rigid. within Acne's Aw10 presentation. The real inspiration behind Acne's AW10 men's collection developed from one garment, the shearling flight jacket.

Picture#1: shorter hair and a revealing shoulder was the fashion craze in the 1920’s. It demonstrated a small type of rebellion and change towards society with more edgy looks. This picture in particular has a great contrast between the woman’s dark dress up against her white shoulder which makes it pop out more.
Picture#2: in this image the woman is wearing a cloche hat. These were made to fit the head comfortable and the low brim only revealed the women eyes. Again with the short hair and the covered face it was a type of sexual appeal so the men would have to take a second look at the women.
Picture#3:the three girls in this picture demonstrate how each style is portrayed the same but uniquely by each person. Revealing their leg was a big deal back in the 20’s because before then all dresses were wore up to their ankles.
Picture#4: the woman holding up her dress to show her legs and the man looking at her legs show that woman did this for a reason. It may have been to show that they have control over their bodies and they have become more independent in society.
Step#3:
Music in the 1920’s:
The music was very fast and upbeat with many instruments such as the piano and the trumpet. There are various people in the songs singing in the background and many solo instrumental parts in the songs too. The artist Billy Murray has a song about a girl named Tatina that he has been looking for everywhere he goes. This relates to the new social values because with all of the girls with the same styles of clothing it is hard to find one. I think he is referring to all of the girls as a whole in the 1920’s. The song “ I’m on My way to Cuba” is about escaping the united states and traveling to paradise where everything will be happy and nice. He says that the U.S.A is now dry and Cuba will be a better place to go. Billy wants to lead the peoples way to a new place.
